I cannot believe Alan is gone.  Alan grew up just a few blocks from me, we played all the time.  It was Alan who got me into Aquariums.  He had an aquarium and we had a lot of fun with it.  I started buying aquariums, fish, plants, etc.  I ended up building aquariums for friends at the U of M.  Thank you Alan.  Alan's dad was cool.  One day, Alan said we were going to a concert in St. Paul.  His dad bought tickets and drove us to the St. Paul Auditorium.  We watched Herman's Hermits, the original group.  I think this was about in 1965.  But the opening band for the Hermits was The Who.  Neigther Alan or I knew who The Who were.  But at the end of their performance they started smashing their guitars.  Alan and I could not believe it.

Alan taught me a very valuable life lesson.  I learned by watching Alan that it was not important to submit to peer pressure.  Alan had great hobbies and just did his own thing.  He did not feel it was important to be popular or swayed by what was cool at the time.  He just did what he liked, and he was good at everything he did.  I loved Alan, I have missed him, and I will miss him always.  God bless you Alan, I will always remember you.

I ran into Al at the University of Minnesota in 1968.  He knocked on my dorm room door one evening as he was soliciting new members for Theta Delta Chi fraternity.  I was as surprised to see him as he was me.  I ended up joining the fraternity and rooming together with him.  He was the nicest of brothers and seemed to get along with everyone he met.
